A raised bed, and a switch to silica media
April 21, 2026
Just installed a modest 8 foot raised garden bed to house the very first of our HDF hybrids. We have a significant trellis to support a few hundred pounds of future dragons! As this brood will be free to root right into the ground and grow freely into our native sandy soil.
We decided for longterm stability to switch to a silica based non-organic media, to avoid future problems with peat decomposition and soil compaction. Paul at Rare Dragon Fruit has been a huge advocate, pioneering this type of soil composition for some time now! We are going to try it out here in SW Florida and see how the dragons respond in our steamy climate.
